Dozana is a civil society organisation in Denmark, working on promoting Democracy in the Syrian refugees' community and advocating for them.
Who we are:
We are a group of Syrian refugees in Denmark. Several years ago, we participated in the peaceful civilian demonstrations that took place at the beginning of the Syrian revolution, with the aim of restoring dignity and freedom for the Syrian people. As a result, and due to the unprecedented brutal crackdown by the regime, we were forced out of the country and became refugees. Our sole crime was our passion for freedom, democracy, and social justice in the country.
In Denmark, we have witnessed a great experience in freedom, democracy, equality, and justice; values that we have always wanted to have for our country. We aspire to learn from this experience and build our capacity to help in a future democratic process in Syria, and to better interact with the democratic lifestyle on a daily basis in our host country.
We believe in a world where refugees see themselves in their countries of refuge as active global citizens, full of energy and inner strength, equipped with skills and able to communicate with others regarding issues of forced migration, opposition to dictatorships, support to causes of equality, social justice and democracy, and having a platform for voicing their concerns and protecting their rights and interests.
Our mission is to produce a civilian team of qualified Syrian refugees, equipped with the right capacities, knowledge, methods and tools that enable them to advocate and communicate their thoughts regarding the Syrian issue and the refugee life. The process involves two topics:
Advocacy: Exploration and use of Danish and global platforms to advocate and make their voices heard.
Promoting democracy: Through the creation of safe spaces for dialogue and learning, taking full advantage of the Danish experience through participating, forums and meetings with Danish politicians and activists.
